10th annual the iA Financial Group Foundation scholarships
OVER $800,000 AWARDED TO DATE FOR SECOND-LANGUAGE LEARNING 

Quebec City, April 30, 2019 – The iA Financial Group Foundation has awarded $110,000 in new scholarships to 53 students from Cégeps Limoilou, Garneau and de Sainte-Foy, who will travel to Hawaii, San Diego, Malta, Mexico and other destinations to immerse themselves and learn a second language.

“Today, speaking a second language is an undeniable asset, even a necessity in many professions. It is also a very personal way to open up to new cultures and iA Financial Group is very pleased to help young people, who impress with their earnestness, openness and hunger to learn, for a tenth year in a row”, states Denis Ricard, President and Chief Executive Officer of iA Financial Group, who awarded the scholarships last night at the company’s head office in Quebec City.

Of this amount, $30,000 was shared among 15 students from Cégep Limoilou to finance an English immersion trip to the Global Village Hawaii, in Honolulu, from May 24 to June 17, 2019. Fourteen students from Cégep Garneau will share $28,000 to finance an immersion trip to Summer Campus, in Mexico, to learn Spanish. In addition, two students from Cégep Sainte-Foy each received a $4,000 scholarship allowing them to complete a session at Humber College in Toronto, while the remaining 22 students received $2,000 each for English immersion experiences around the world, including in San Diego, Honolulu and Malta.

With these scholarships, the Foundation has awarded more than $800,000 since its creation in 2010. In total, no less than 365 students from Cégeps de Sainte-Foy, Limoilou and Garneau have received financial support from iA Financial Group.

The mission of the iA Financial Group Foundation for Second-Language Learning is to promote and encourage linguistic versatility in students by providing scholarships. The purpose of these scholarships is to support exchanges and openness among young people from across the country and around the world. Since the Foundation was created in 2010, this support has been provided in the form of financing for individual or group immersion experiences and study programs in a foreign language environment.

Canada-wide philanthropic contest
A SASKATCHEWAN CHARITY WINS THE PUBLIC’S HEARTS AND $125,000

Quebec, December 11, 2018 – The Canadian Mental Health Association – Swift Current Branch, in Saskatchewan, wins the grand prize of $125,000 iA Financial Group’s second annual Canada-wide philanthropic contest, announced in September.

Among the ten finalists, the Centre prevention suicide du Kamouraska-Rivière-du-Loup-Témiscouata-Les-Basques (KRTB) in Rivière-du-Loup, Quebec, and Pathstone Foundation in St. Catharines, Ontario, came in second and third respectively. They each win a donation of $50,000. The remaining seven finalists each receive a donation of $10,000.

“I’d like to thank the participating charities for the quality of the propositions submitted as well as the public for voting in such large numbers. We were once again touched by the wave of solidarity across the country throughout the contest”, comments Denis Ricard, President and Chief Executive Officer of iA Financial Group.

The purpose of the contest was to provide financial support to a Canadian charity that works with people living with mental health issues. The dozens of submissions received were carefully reviewed by the jury, who selected the ten finalists. The public then voted on the submissions they found most inspiring.

EMPLOYEE FAVOURITES
Unbeknownst to the ten finalist charities, iA Financial Group also invited its employees to vote on the submission they found the most inspiring and that deserved to win an additional $25,000 donation. iA Financial Group employees voted for Quebec City charity Communautés solidaires to receive this surprise donation.

The three winning charities and their submissions

1.  Canadian Mental Health Association – Swift Current Branch, SWIFT CURRENT, SASKATCHEWAN With its program There’s a million Bobby’s, CMHA Swift Current aims to provide more services to socially isolated people, primarily young adults, by increasing their opening hours and creating an attractive program for these target clients. 

  1. Centre prévention suicide de Kamouraska-Rivière-du-Loup-Témiscouata-Les-Basques, RIVIÈRE-DU-LOUP, QUEBEC

The financial support from iA Financial Group will allow the centre to improve its Prévention Agro-Bien-être program. The program team will travel throughout the KRTB region and meet with agricultural producers and their loved ones to help them alleviate psychological distress.

  1. Pathstone Foundation, ST. CATHARINES, ONTARIO

This organization works to make sure that no child in the Niagara region has to wait more than 30 days to receive mental health treatment. The financial support from iA Financial Group will help to extend the hours and days of service and hire permanent staff for the new walk-in clinic.

The financial support from iA Financial Group will help the Entraid’aînés program, a home-based intervention program designed to help seniors who are experiencing psychological distress or mental health issues.
