South Shore Furniture invites local companies to take advantage of its distribution network

Sainte-Croix-de-Lotbinière, April 28th, 2020 – South Shore Furniture has seen an increase of more than 70% in online sales since the start of the recent health crisis, breaking all previous records. Today, the Québec online furniture manufacturer and retailer, which has been a big beneficiary of the recent system-wide explosion in ecommerce, is offering to share its success with other local producers. This is the second crisis, in just over a decade, that South Shore Furniture’s innovative business model has helped it to overcome.

“We have chosen to invest massively in ecommerce right here in Quebec,” said Jean Laflamme, president of the fourth generation family business. “These choices make perfect sense today. The economic shock caused by the pandemic has greatly increased popular interest in local and online shopping. We are now ready to provide new partners with access our vast North American distribution network and online business platform.”

South Shore Furniture, which remains strongly attached to its Québec roots, is now opening the doors to its market to local businesses that offer furniture and décor products that could complement its own offerings.

The company is calling for producers and retailers who do not have online commerce expertise and who are struggling to sell their inventory during this difficult period to communicate with its team to examine possibilities.

EMPLOYEES PROUD TO GET BACK TO WORK, SAFELY
While South Shore Furniture’s Mexican facilities remain completely shut down until the end of May, its St. Croix and Coaticook plants and major distribution centers in the U.S. continue to operate with reduced staff in order to comply with current health regulations.

“South Shore Furniture’s exceptional, motivated and dedicated team has played a key role in helping to meet the growing demand during these challenging times” says Jean Laflamme.

The company’s 1,000 employees are working in highly secure environments, with personal protective equipment, partitioned workspaces, personal distancing enforced in common areas and strict screening of people who could present symptoms of disease.

ABOUT SOUTH SHORE FURNITURE
South Shore Furniture, which was founded in 1940, is the first Canadian manufacturing company to specialize in online furniture sales. The company’s success is rooted in a dedicated team of almost 1,000 employees, located across four factories and three distribution centers in Québec, the United States and Mexico. South Shore Furniture markets more than 1,000 products in six categories. These include bedroom and office furniture, storage solutions and furniture for babies and children. The Quebec company is currently ranked as one of the best managed in all of Canada (bestmanagedcompanies.ca).

TWO QUEBEC CHEESES STAND OUT AT WORLD CHEESE AWARDS HELD IN ITALY

Quebec City, October 23, 2019 – Two cheeses produced by Fromagerie Bergeron, Le Louis Cyr and Le Calumet, placed 2nd and 3rd respectively in the world in their category at the 32nd World Cheese Awards, which were held October 18 in Bergamo, Italy.

Le Louis Cyr, an aged cheese with a roasted flavour of caramel and candied fruit, won the silver medal, while le Calumet, a natural wood cold-smoked cheese, took bronze. Both winning cheeses are made with 100% Canadian milk and are naturally lactose free.

“This marvellous distinction for us reflects the enormous effort we make day after day to bring our customers the highest quality cheeses. We are very proud to have represented Canada at a competition of such international scope and to have brought home these two prizes,” said Roger Bergeron, Fromagerie Bergeron President.

CLOSE TO 4 000 ENTRIES
3804 cheeses from 42 countries, including Japan, New Zealand, Brazil, Israel and South Africa, were all judged in a single day at the 32nd World Cheese Awards.

Judges selected the 16 best products before inviting the public to take part in the final deliberations that would determine the world’s very best cheeses. Before naming this year’s winners, the international jury of producers, cheesemaker-dairies, chefs, vendors and food critics presented their shortlist of favourites live on World Cheese TV.

In making their selection, the judges assessed a whole host of criteria including rind, colour, texture, consistency and, of course, flavour.

“Being able to impress a judging panel of that stature is very meaningful to us. The competition entered a field of quality cheeses and we were still able to earn two top distinctions. We’ve been blessed with the opportunity of positioning ourselves internationally with these two very important wins,” he added.

ABOUT FROMAGERIE BERGERON

An additional amount of up to $350,000 will also be granted by Investissement Québec as part of the Créativité Québec program, for a total investment of two million dollars that will provide Prehos with the impetus it needs to tap into new markets.

These new financial resources come at an important time for the innovative company. Currently firmly established in community paramedicine services of Quebec and Ontario, Prehos has now been granted the necessary financial commitments to pursue its efforts to develop and market its cutting-edge technological solution.

The key feature of the technology developed and constantly updated by Prehos is that it optimizes, in real-time, patient care management, operations management, data analysis and quality assurance in order to enhance the care provided to the population, while at the same time offering iron-clad security and optimum reliability.

PATIENT-FOCUSED INNOVATION
“Improving public healthcare and welfare is an integral part of Dessercom’s primary mission. This $1.75M investment in venture capital is a signal of our team’s clear commitment to the efficiency of the Prehos solution and its outstanding potential to increase the performance of pre-hospital emergency services and home care both in Quebec and around the world,” asserted Maxim Laviolette, General Manager of Dessercom.

From the outset, the Prehos team has adhered to the highest safety standards in the industry and implemented them through a Security by Design approach that guarantees the protection of all personal data. In addition to data encryption, traceability and the use of the most up-to-date security protocols, Prehos complies to the standards and requirements of privacy laws in all the areas in which it operates.

Jimmy Pelletier – The Journey
CANADIAN PARALYMPIAN JIMMY PELLETIER LEFT VANCOUVER TODAY TO CROSS CANADA BY HAND BIKE

Vancouver, May 7, 2019 — Canadian Paralympic athlete Jimmy Pelletier left the University of British Columbia this morning to achieve an exceptional sporting feat! He is rolling 7,200 km across Canada by hand bike in just 67 days to raise $500,000 for people suffering from autism spectrum disorders and physical or intellectual disabilities.

“I am very happy to be on the starting line this morning. We have been preparing for months for this 67-day adventure and we are excited to finally give the first pedal stroke towards Halifax!”, said Jimmy Pelletier this morning surrounded by his team of six courageous cyclists who plan to reach their destination by July 10.

The money raised will be given to Patro Roc-Amadour and Adaptavie, two Quebec nonprofit organizations, as well as various nonprofit organizations located in the cities visited during Jimmy’s coast-to-coast challenge.

Always ready to help others in need, Jimmy Pelletier invites Canadians to keep him rolling across the country by buying one or many kilometers at $25 each.

Jimmy Pelletier survived a car accident in 1996 that left him paraplegic at 19 years old. He chose to embrace his condition and, with great perseverance, became a successful Paralympian. He has been a member of the Canadian hand cycling race bike team and he competed in the Torino 2006 Paralympic Games in cross-country skiing. Last year, he became the second in the world to reach the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro using an adaptive mountain bike.

A GOOD START

The departure was an opportunity for Jimmy to meet one of his biggest inspirations: Rick Hansen, the Canadian Paralympian and advocate for people with disabilities. Yesterday, during this meeting at Rick Hansen’s foundation office, Jimmy was encouraged to persevere on the eve of his great departure. Hansen highlighted Jimmy’s accomplishments by thanking him for his commitment to the causes that matter to them both.

“This inspiring meeting will be engraved in my memory forever. I’m leaving Vancouver touched and very motivated for the coming weeks,” said Pelletier.

During his two-day stopover in the beautiful BC metropolis, Jimmy also visited Ladner Elementary School to speak about perseverance through life challenges. Captivated and moved by Jimmy’s life story, students attending his interactive conference were encouraged to never give up their dreams.
